About us

Founded by people who refused to look away

Amithabha Foundation began as an idea shared by a small group of idealistic, philanthropic individuals in Hyderabad — that no child should be denied an education because of the accident of their birth.

Cause and effect

Why the Foundation exists

Even decades after independence, India's progress in medicine, trade and technology has not reached every child. Millions of underprivileged families are still forced to send their children to work rather than to school — girls into domestic labour, boys into tea shops, provision stores and workshops.

Denied their most basic rights, many of these children grow up alienated from a society that failed them. Amithabha Foundation was formed to interrupt that cycle at its root: by keeping children in school, bringing dropouts back into education, freeing children from labour, and giving deserving students the scholarships, shelter and care they need to build a different future.

Our objectives

What we set out to do

Education for all

Provide uninterrupted, quality education to children from poverty-stricken families.

Bring dropouts back

Re-admit school dropouts and support them through to at least the 10th standard.

End child labour

Identify children working in unsafe conditions and support their rehabilitation into education.

Scholarships

Support meritorious students from underprivileged backgrounds who cannot otherwise continue their studies.

Safe shelter

Provide hostel-style accommodation with proper food, water and hygiene for deserving students.

Revive struggling homes

Support existing children's homes weighed down by financial strain, so they can return to being places of care and learning.
